**UPDATE** Hathersage is to get broadband from 11th August 2004
A number of people have raised the same issue concerning broadband connection in Hathersage?. I wondered if there had been any suggestions about a co-ordinated attempt to get Hathersage signed up for Broadband, at the moment it seems we don't exist as far as BT is concerned? Hathersage isn't even on the map yet as far as BT is concerned so we don't even have a target number of registrations to aim for and I thought if everyone here who uses the internet (even if they would probably not sign up for it) could go to http://bt.com/btbroadband/register and register their interest, - it doesn't cost anything or bind you to anything - we might be able to at least to get that far? The page really tells you whatever you need to know and is the start page for registration. If you type in your telephone number and click check it will test the line and tell you we cannot receive broadband yet but can register an interest, all you need is your name and BT account number. We appear to come under the East Midland Region or at least that is where Grindleford is so I assume we are the same. (Name Withheld)

BT have reviewed over a 1000 exchanges in order to calculate the full costs of upgrading the exchange. Based on the conclusions of this analysis, more than 800 have been given trigger levels. Your exchange Hathersage has not been reviewed yet and does not have a threshold. We are currently in the process of setting more trigger levels. We will definitely review all the exchanges where demand exceeds 200 pre-registrations. This does not automatically mean that it will get a trigger level. If BT feels that the amount of interest required is unrealistically high compared to the amount of people on the exchange, it is marked as 'Not viable.' Further to this, a series of technological breakthroughs will allow us to set about 400 extra trigger levels this Summer. The new developments will enable exchanges to be linked together so that the cost of connecting them to the core BT network are reduced. In the upcoming months we will investigate where we can apply this new method and set a trigger level for the exchange. For those areas where it may not be possible to set a target, we will try to work with local organisations to stimulate both supply and demand. A number of partnerships have already allowed us to upgrade exchanges where it may otherwise not have been commercially possible. This includes exchanges in Cornwall, Scotland and Wales.
