Hathersage First
Response Team consists of a number of local volunteers who have
kindly agreed to give their time and effort. Their aim is to give assistance
to anyone who is experiencing the effects of cardiac arrest and require
emergency treatment until medical help is available. Although we have
discovered through the call-outs already received it is not just heart
attacks we shall be dealing with. We are working closely with E.M.A.S.
and St. John Ambulance, who are training the volunteers in basic life
saving skills to a national standard. Training will be ongoing at three
monthly intervals. Trainees will be covered by St. John insurance.
Further volunteers
are still required, as the more people we have the less time needs to
be asked of each volunteer, they should have access to transport while
on call and this should be suitable for carrying the Basic Life Equipment.
They should also be prepared to accept training from E.M.A.S. and St.
John to successfully pass the training examination. At the moment we
have eight volunteers based in Hathersage and one from Bamford. Originally
we thought we were just covering Hathersage and Outseats, but taking
advice from E.M.A.S. we will now be covering Bamford, Hathersage, Outseats,
Abney, Grindleford and Fox House.
