Funding medical research for the 21st century
"Despite countless breakthrough in medical science we still do not understand why some pregnancies will end in tragedy. You can help us by raising funds to support vital medical research which is really making a huge difference to people starting a family and to babies who have difficulties at the start of life." Professor Robert Winston, Chairman of the Women for Women Appeal and Chairman of the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Trust.
Scientists at Imperial College, Hammersmith and Queen Charlotte's Hospitals in London lead the way in understanding and finding solutions to the most dangerous journey that all humans make - through conception, pregnancy and birth.
Here at the Wolfson and Weston Research Centre for family health we house the largest team of doctors and scientists in Britain, working together to improve the health of women and babies. This is truly a centre of excellence, unparalleled in Europe.
Funds raised by Women for Women Cycle India will train women scientists and clinicians - empowering more women to lead in this field. They will specialise in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a range of devastating conditions which cause cancer, miscarriage, infertility and genetic diseases such as cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy. Our fundamental aim is to improve women's ongoing good health throughout their lives and to ensure that more women have a normal pregnancy with a healthy baby.
Each year this research centre trains at least ten scientists. Working alongside eminent researchers they make invaluable contributions to our research projects and are important authors on virtually all of our publications. We need to recruit scientists of the highest calibre and expand this programme.
